Choose and organise the source files
Send only confirmed or clearly labelled selects. Include the preferred raw conversion, high-resolution TIFF or layered PSD when available. Keep file names stable so comments and delivered versions remain easy to trace.
If multiple exposures, focus layers or replacement elements belong to one final image, place them in a dedicated folder or layered file. Identify the intended base frame.

Provide visual direction
References should describe the desired finish, not simply show unrelated images you like. Explain what each reference demonstrates: skin texture, colour, contrast, background or compositing style.
For series work, identify the hero frame that should define the rest. If colour grading is already approved, include a reference JPEG and the working colour profile.
Write a production-ready brief
List image-specific requests separately from instructions that apply to every file. Markups are useful for details that are difficult to describe, such as a reflection, garment fold or edge.
Confirm final dimensions, colour space, bit depth, file format, delivery date and review contacts. These details prevent a finished image from needing avoidable re-export or reconstruction.
